2008 Budget Reconfirms Financial Benefits of LPG

The Government continued to demonstrate its long term commitment to LPG in the 2008 Budget when the Chancellor announced a continuation of the existing guarantee for low fuel duty for LPG through to 2011.

The duty will rise by no more than 1p per litre per year more than petrol or diesel. This means that the price of LPG at the pumps should continue at around half the price of petrol and diesel for the foreseeable future.

The website is now in the process of being extended to encompass other value for money automotive services, including valeting, driving schools, engine tuning, tyres, exhausts and more. SpongeCars are keen to hear from other motor trade businesses throughout the UK who can offer quality services and are looking for extra promotional opportunities. Details here >>

An L of a Trip
Steve Fricker, owner of Devon's Gas Power UK is planning a marathon 'driving lesson' to add fuel to the environmental debate. Mr Fricker has enlisted Richard Bevan, owner of RLB School of Motoring to demonstrate LPG's fuel economy on a record busting 875 mile Land's End to John O'Groats drive and at the same time teach him advanced driving techniques.

The duo could enter the Guinness Book of Records if the trip is officially recognised as the longest advanced driving lesson. Mr Fricker hopes the stunt will convince more people to switch to LPG. He said "The idea is to show the public that running a car on LPG is the way forward."

The car they will use - a new Kia Picanto 1.1 which has been converted to gas - is already recognised as one of the most economical cars on the market, with a reported 57mpg capability.

He said "The trip will take 30 hours because we will be travelling at 55mph - the optimum speed for efficiency. By doing that, the trip should cost just £60 in fuel, rather than £130 to £140 going at the same speed on petrol"

Diesel LPG is Here
SpongeCars have been working with engineers in the UK and abroad to achieve the goal of converting diesel engines to run on LPG. The system has been developed over the past 3 years, taking into account all variations of the diesel engine. After extensive development work, our goal has been realised. So in addition to petrol, we can now offer lpg conversions on most diesel engines. More >>
